Watching Mission Blue is a complicated experience. Sylvia Earle is an incredible woman and her love of the ocean is so deep and powerful. The work she's done and the strides she's made are amazing. The footage throughout the film is incredibly beautiful. At the same time, this film highlights everything humanity has done to hurt the ocean. This is where it gets tough. It's hard to watch the negative impact we've had on such a magnificent part of this planet. It's easy to feel small and hopeless after watching something like this, but I think it's important to acknowledge the harm being done and figure out how you can fit into the solution. The work that Earle does through Mission Blue and their efforts to find hope spots throughout the world are just one of the many ways people are working together to keep our planet alive.
